Governor of Tennessee Presents Award to Rosalee

Trade Excellance Award

Thrusday, September 13th 2007, Tennessee Governor Bredesen, presented to Rosalee the Trade Excellance Award for a small business under 25 employees. The award was a huge honor for me, since only one business-per size catergory- statewide would be presented the award according to your company's size. The Award was presented at the Governor's conference on Economic development for the State of Tennessee.

Thanks to everyone who has helped my company to stay in business. Sometimes it is tough running a small business and wearing 5 different hats, I thank you for your support.

Lakisha's Kloset
LaKisha Michelle Appleton is a native of Nashville , Tennessee . At an early age, LaKisha knew that she wanted to be an entrepreneur. LaKisha also knew that she had a love for clothing, shoes, and accessories, but didn’t express her interests at the time due to being a plus sized child in a size 2 world that didn’t accept plus size fashion.

LaKisha’s parents instilled in her the importance of having a good education and a successful career; and after obtaining a dual degree from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville in Marketing and Spanish in 2003, she set her sights on corporate America . After working for a couple of years in sales, LaKisha realized that she was not made to work a typical 9 to 5 job every day for the rest of her life. She wanted to do something creative and helpful to consumers like herself. In 2005 LaKisha decided that she was going to go after her dream of designing clothing for plus sizes. She felt that even in the 21st century, there was still size discrimination and prejudice in the fashion world and wanted to be a part of destructing these negative perceptions of plus size people.

In July of 2005 Michelle enrolled at the International Academy of design and Technology in Nashville , TN. Her time in design school confirmed her beliefs in the discrimination against larger sizes in the fashion world. All her assignment and projects were based off of a size 8 figure; a size that she was not, and a size that she was not looking to design for. LaKisha decided that for her college internship, she would find someone to teach her plus size design techniques. Her prayers were answered when she found Rosalee in late 2006 on the Internet. She emailed Rosalee from her website and Rosalee was willing to help her reach her goals. In July of 2007 LaKisha graduated with a degree in Fashion Design and Merchandising and now has her sights set on showing the world that big can indeed be sexy and fashionable with the introduction of her clothing line called “Envime” (pronounced envy me). The concept behind the name is that now the size 2 world will want to wear her designs in their size, much like she wanted to be able to wear their size 2 clothes in her size as a child.

LaKisha’s design style is an eclectic combination of trendy, classic, comfortable, sexy, and innovative garments. Her interests don’t stop at designing clothing. LaKisha has interests in fashion show coordinating and fashion styling and consulting. LaKisha would someday like to design plus size clothing for children and men as well as shoes and accessories for her consumers. Her ultimate goal is to have her clothing in storefronts across the world in department stores, malls, or even her own store.

Rosalee recieves Rising Star Award
Wednesday April the 18th was a special day for me, I recieved the Rising Star award from the Tennessee Small Business Development Council for my efforts to export as a small business. As many of my international customers are aware, I ship to almost every country in the world. My goal is to dress as many women in the world in my fashions as possible. I believe that their are women who are interested in fashions with lasting styles, comfort, quality fabrics and workmanship.

The Rising Star Award is a very prestigious award. There were 3 business persons selected in the state of Tennessee for this award and I was selected. When I learned this fact, I looked liked Melinda Doolittle on American Idol with the look of surprise.

I want to thank all my customers- USA and international for your patronage, you are the ones who have helped me to win this award. I appreciate your business and feedback.

About Us

Visit me on myspace and join my friend's list. http://www.myspace.com/rosaleebbwapparel

Rosalee has been designing clothes for Plus size and Large size women for over 30 years. My webstore is an answer to a prayer, I want to dress the women of the world, and by means of the internet, I can do that.

I love designing clothes. I started sewing when I was 5 years old making doll clothes. Her mother was a quiltmaker and passed the skills to her daughters, but Rosalee was not interested in making quilts, so she started making doll clothes.
At age 9 she made her first item of clothing--a horse print skirt--she forgot to turn her pattern pieces correctly and the horses were going one direction in the front and another in the back. She wore it proudly, and since that time she has not made that mistake.
At age 11, Rosalee started sewing for her mother and sister who were full figured women. This experience started her passion of dressing women of size.
Rosalee honed her skills with an older woman-Mrs. Smiley who worked at the old Queen City Nursing Home, the Clarksville Academy sits on the site today. Mrs. Smiley was the alterations lady for the nursing home and she taught Rosalee, alterations, custom sewing, and sewing tricks. Later Rosalee took sewing classes in the summer from Miss Greenlaw at the former Burt High School.
Over the years Rosalee continue to take various couture clothing classes and read a ton of books, all the while perfecting her skills.
In the 1970's and 80's she did custom sewing and alterations for the Clarksville Community, but she always wanted to have her own clothing line.
In the late 1980's Rosalee opened Womensize 18-70 Shop on North Second Street. She also implemented a mail order division and started selling her fashions not only locally but to women in Canada, the UK and the Carribbean Islands.
When Desert Storm was raging and many families left the area, Rosalee local business was affected, but at this time she started to see the future of the personal computer and the world wide web. Roslaee knew if enough people worldwide had access to the internet people could shop 24 hours a day and she could reach the entire world with her fashions.
In 1999 Rosalee started with an ebay store, and she taught herself ecommerce, web building, and gathered as much info as possible on how to reach the Plus and Large size woman.
Today, Rosalee has customers in the USA, Canada, the UK, Australia, the Artic Circle, The Carribbean Islands, Mexico and several other small countries. Rosalee designs and creates fashions in sizes 14w(1x) to 50w (9x). Rosalee creates several lines a year and adds new items every 10 to 15 days. Customers may select their garment length and pant inseam, because not everyone is the same height.
Rosalee was awarded the Rising Star Award on April 18th, 2007 from the Tennessee Small Business Development Council for her efforts as a small business, in exporting, customer service, and meeting the needs of a global market. The Rising Star award has truly had an impact with various online communities, my customers, visitors to my website and to me personally, it validates a vison that I have had for a long time. When you are a small business with a niche, it takes a lot of people flowing thru to make your business profitable. The whole world is at our fingertips, I have found that many people in other countries, understand this concept more the we Americans do.
The award was quite unexpected. I appreciate being selected to recieve this award.

When you place an order, you can customize your dress or skirt lengths and your pant inseams. Some styles come with color choice and sleeve choice.

I am very proud of our stretch Lace panty line, please check out the beautiful colors.
